Ever wonder how science powers the jaw-dropping effects of a rock concert? In this electrifying session from the Discovery Center of Idaho, we’ll dive into the physics behind special effects, exploring the magic of lighting and the crackling energy of static electricity. Discover how these elements can create dazzling shows, and try your hand at crafting your own electrifying effects. Whether you’re a STEM enthusiast or just love the spectacle, this session will leave you ready to bring the science of rock ‘n’ roll to life!

Lauren Axness (Oglala Lakota and Turtle Mountain Ojibwe), Education Coordinator, is a graduate from Boise State University with a BA in Communication and a minor in Theatre Arts. Her background in theatre came from a desire to understand how things work, which has led her to appreciate STEAM as a model for learning. Her enthusiasm for fostering curiosity and creativity brings new life to on- and off-site programming for learners of all ages.

Education Director Erin Seymour graduated from Wartburg College in 2013 with a biology degree. Erin works to mobilize learners of all ages and backgrounds to foster curiosity and connect with the natural world. Following two years of service with AmeriCorps and five years of teaching middle school in a Title I district, Erin is a strong proponent of the value and longitudinal impact of inquiry-based, hands-on educational experiences. Her positive attitude and creativity have helped propel the educational programs at the Discovery Center forward and have made the Discovery Center of Idaho a top leader in STEM education throughout Idaho.
